Vision Statement
Colorado Koinonia's vision is to provide a Christ-centered environment that encourages individual Christians to expand their potential as followers of Christ. Koinonians focus on sharing Christ in their families, their churches, their work, and their communities. We believe in the power of prayer and in the Holy Trinity: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Mission Statement
With God's help, we will create a Christ-centered community, providing opportunities for Christian fellowship, growth and worship. Within this loving Christian environment, we will foster personal growth by revealing Christ's work in our lives through open and honest sharing of our life's journeys, celebrations and struggles, and we will provide opportunities for individuals to use their God given gifts and talents. We will pray for and with each other, and relate to each other with acceptance and encouragment, acknowledging and recognizing that each person is God's unique creation. Through service and kindness, we will model God's unconditional love. All this we will accomplish through the power of prayer, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and love of the Father, and the sacrifice of the Son.
Koinonia [koy-nohn-nee-ah] n. Greek: fellowship
Koinonia Weekend is many things, but most of all it is an experience to be lived. The Weekend is structured around a series of talks given by laypeople and clergy. After each talk, there is a time for discussion in small groups. The talks provide thought for discussion and guidelines for life beyond the Weekend. The weekend is one filled with joy, informal conversation, singing, and a lot of fun and laughter. Koinonia is open to adult Christians of any age, sex, race or denomination. Participants may be sponsored by anyone who has attended a Koinonia Retreat, or other similar Christian Weekend.
Koinonia History
Koinonia was brought to Colorado in 1977 by Ron and Pat Morgan. The Morgans were transferred by Marathon Oil Co. from Findlay, OH to Littleton, Colorado. With the help of Episcopal Cursillo, which had already been active in Colorado for several years, the first weekend took place April 15-17, 1977 at Covenant Heights Baptist Bible Camp near Estes Park, Colorado. There were 19 participants, mostly from Grace Presbyterian Church of Littleton, Colorado.
Participants in Koinonia are now spread throughout Colorado, and have established Koinonia groups in the area of Denver, Northern, Southern, and Western Colorado, as well as many other states, including: Montana, Arkansas, Texas, Oregon, Washington, and New Mexico
